Walter C. Desgranges age 101, of Holgate died Friday afternoon, July 28, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee.
His Legacy… He was born April 25, 1916 to Oliver and Mary (Leaders) Desgranges in Pleasant Township, New Bavaria. On January 22, 1949, he married Helen W. Snyder. Walter was top in his class at West Hope High School, graduating in 1933. He was a soldier in the Army during World War II, fighting in 3 battles, including Battle of the Bulge. Walter was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Holgate and a Farm Bureau member. He was a caretaker of the land all his life, raising primarily soybeans, corn and wheat.
His Family… Walter is survived by his wife Helen of 68 years; children, Larry (Robin) Desgranges, Napoleon, Carol Agler, Napoleon, Joan Grahn, Holgate, James Desgranges, Holgate, Rick (Pam) Desgranges, Holgate, and Kenneth, state of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; sister, Ruby Diehl, Lima; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Ann; son-in–laws, Thomas Agler and Andrew Grahn; brother, John; and sisters, Alice Garver and Helen M. Desgranges.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, Holgate on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and again one hour before the church service. The Celebration of Walter’s 101 year life will be Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Holgate at 11:00 am with Reverend Greg Olsen officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Holgate American Legion and the New Bavaria VFW and AMVETS. Contributions made in Walter’s memory can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or donor’s choice.
