Donald F. Niese age 88, died in his Leipsic home Monday night surrounded by family.
His Legacy… He was born November 10, 1929 to Wilbert and Ardella (Warniment) Niese in Miller City. Donald graduated from Malinta-Grelton High School in 1947 and enlisted in the United States Army. On June 6, 1953 he married Marilyn “Jeanie” Jean Hanenkratt. Don was employed by General Motors Defiance Powertrain for 43 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria. Don was a member of the New Bavaria VFW, Ottawa Eagles, and Harness Horsemen Association.
His Family… He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Jean; children: Dan (Karen) Niese, Ottawa, Douglas (Helen) Niese, Leipsic, David (Barb) Niese, Miller City, Tim (Pam) Niese, Glandorf, Rodney (girlfriend Veronica) Niese, Columbus Grove and Kara (Chris) Schneider, Findlay; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and siblings: Marvin (Doris) Niese, Carolyn (Larry) Korte, Gene (Pat) Niese, and Linda (Jim) Maas and brother-in-law, Paul Bellman and sister-in-law, Marlene Niese. He was preceded in death by siblings: Martha Bellman, Melvin Niese, Betty Niese, Gail Niese, Joseph Niese, Kathleen Sager, sister-in-law Pat Niese, brother-in-law Norman Rosengarten and a brother-in-law, Donald Sager.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Everyone will be welcomed into Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria at 9:30 am on Friday, July 20, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Bavaria VFW and AMVETS and Holgate American Legion. Contributions made in Donald’s memory can be made to Putnam County Hospice or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
