Arthur Harmon Baker age 96 of Gibsonburg and formerly of Holgate, died Friday, February 19, 2016 at Windsor Lane Healthcare Center, Gibsonburg.

His Legacy… Art was born July 18, 1919 to Elmer and Laurena (Zachrich) Baker in New Bavaria.  In November of 1937, he married Florence Mae Rettig.  She died on June 14, 2014. Art was enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Napoleon American Legion and was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Holgate.   He was a farmer all his life but did other jobs including: hauling milk, painting buildings during summers and working nights at the Elery Supper Club.  He drove bus for Holgate Local School and drove heavy equipment for the State of Ohio.

His Family… He is survived by sons, Kenneth Baker, Petersburg, KY and Herbert Baker, Toledo; a daughter Sandra Shoup, Helena, OH; 6 grandchildren; 9   great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a brother Bob Baker, Holgate and a sister Leora Helmke, Jewell.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter Janet Baker Junge and a great grandson.

His Farewell Services… Friends and family are invited to the Zachrich Funeral Home on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 10:00 am with the funeral service at 11:00 am with Reverend David Orr officiating.  Burial will follow in St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Holgate with military honors accorded by the Napoleon American Legion.  Memorial contributions made in Art’s memory can be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ.
