Betty K. Burkhart

January 20, 1924 — April 15, 2011

Betty Kathleen Burkhart, age 87, of New Bavaria, died Friday morning, April 15, 2011 at the Meadows of Leipsic.

Her Legacy… She was born January 20, 1924 to Edward and Zeta (Marchal) Okuly in Defiance. She graduated from Defiance High School in 1942. On September 14, 1944, she married Earl Burkhart. Betty was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria, the Rosary Altar Society and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia #75. She was also a member of the New Bavaria VFW Auxiliary #8847.

Her Family… She is survived by her loving family; children, Rebecca (Ed) Michael, Coldwater, MI, Karen (Carl) Scheckelhoff, New Bavaria, Joyce Schmenk, Old Saybrook, CT, Michael Burkhart, New Bavaria, Chris Burkhart, New Bavaria, Beverly (Bobby) Gill, New Bavaria, Connie (Mark) Kunesh, Defiance, and Ann (Jeff) Robbins, Alpena, MI; 19 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in January of 1997 and her brothers Robert and Harold (T-bone) Okuly.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-8 pm. There will be a VFW Auxiliary service that afternoon at 3:30 pm. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 18, 2011 at 10:30 am with Father Stephen Stanbery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Betty's honor to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Putnam County Homecare & Hospice, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Henry County or to a charity of your choice.
