Betty Dean (Meyer) Schroeder

Betty D. Schroeder, age 79, of Defiance, died Wednesday morning, February 16, 2011 at The Laurels of Defiance.

Her Legacy… She was born December 8, 1931 to Paul H. and Dorthea (Badenhop) Meyer in Holgate, Monroe Township. She graduated from Holgate High School in 1949 and went on to attain her Bachelors Degree from the Defiance College. Betty married Walter F. Schroder June 27, 1976 in St. John Lutheran Church, Holgate. She taught part time at the Defiance College for 10 years. Mrs. Schroeder was a devoted English teacher at Holgate High School for 32 years expecting much from her students. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for 25 years. Betty was a member of the St. John Lutheran Day School Board in Defiance for 10 years and a member of the Ohio Retired Teacher Association.

Her Family… She is survived by her sisters, Donna (Leo) Swary of Defiance, Judith Meyer and Judy Lou Lockwood both of Dayton; and a brother Paul (Mary) Meyer of Saginaw, MI. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Walter on September 30, 2006.

Betty was very clear with her Farewell Services… There will be no visitation. Her memorial service will be on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in St. John Lutheran Church, Holgate with Reverend Theodore Rellstab officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Betty’s honor to St. John Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Zachrich Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Holgate.
