Calvin Smith (Charles Calvin Jacob Smith), age 91, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A devoted Christian, lifelong farmer, and humble servant of God, he lived with faith, gratitude, and steadfast purpose. Born June 7, 1934, in Napoleon, Ohio, Calvin learned early the values of perseverance, stewardship, and trust in the Lord. Farming was his calling and his ministry—each day in the fields reminded him of God’s provision. Throughout his life, Calvin quietly shared the Gospel, offering Christian booklets to anyone he met at feed stores, restaurants, or church gatherings. He often said his task was to sow the seed; God would bring the growth. A man of few words but deep conviction, Calvin lived what he believed—showing Christ’s love through kindness, generosity, and prayer. His Bible was well-worn, his faith unwavering.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marybelle; children Rhonda Humphrey and David (Corina) Smith; grandchildren Christine (Josh) Maihle, Benjamin (Maggie) Humphrey, Sarah (Christian) Barhite, Samuel, Silas, Abigail, Hannah, Esther, and Elijah Smith; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loring and Bessie Smith; sister, Ann Michaelis; and son-in-law, David Humphrey. His family is grateful for his lasting legacy of faith and integrity.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Napoleon Nazarene Church, Napoleon, Ohio.
