Edwin Michaelis age 97, of Holgate and formerly of Hamler passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 28, 2017 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.
His Legacy… He was born October 3, 1920 to August and Adelia (Bremer) Michaelis. Edwin served in the United States Army Airforce. On July 19, 1951, he married R. Charlene Swihart in Hope Lutheran Church. He was a farmer and worked at Johns Manville. Edwin was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler. He was a past member of Hamler, Patrick Henry, Four County, and Henry County School Boards; past president of Ohio Polka Boosters and Hamler Summerfest; past commander of Hamler Legion 262; life member of the VFW; and past president of the 339th Fighter Squadron. Edwin participated in the WWII Honor Flight and traveled for AF reunions. He was a longtime Cleveland Indians fan, Ohio State Buckeyes fan, and loved watching baseball and college basketball.
His Family… Eddie is survived by his daughter Karen Michaelis, and many nieces and nephews. Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene and son, Ken Michaelis, sisters, Elda Dannenberg and Lorna Mueller.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be welcomed into the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Friday from 3-7 pm and again 1 hour before the service at church. The Celebration of Eddie’s Life will be on Saturday, at 11:00 am in Hope Lutheran Church with Reverend Keith Hunsinger officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Contributions made in Ed’s memory can be made to Hope Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
