Elmer H. Fuhrhop age 92, of Hamler died Wednesday morning, February 3, 2016, at Promedica St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee.
His Legacy… Elmer was born on April 7, 1923 to William and Sophie (Gobrogge) Fuhrhop in Deshler. From February 2, 1943, until November 21, 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. Just a few months after returning from the war, he married J. Mary Ellen Cramer on February 10, 1946, in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Holgate. He is a retired farmer, truck driver, grain/feed plant manager and Patrick Henry High School bus driver and custodian. He was a 70 year member of the American Legion Post 262, National Children and Youth Chairman Emeritus, board member of the American Legion National Child Welfare Foundation, Trustee Emeritus of Buckeye Boys State and past mayor of Hamler for 17 years.
His Family… He is survived by his daughter Diann E. (William) Brown, Defiance and son Alan K. (Jeannine Jones) Fuhrhop, Whitehouse; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sisters, Loretta Cramer, Holgate, and Arlene Garbers, Ft. Myers, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen, a son Dennis Fuhrhop, brothers, Robert and Herbert and a sister, Marvelle Guelde.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Friday from 2-8 pm and one hour in the church before the service. The celebration of Elmer’s life will be on Saturday at 1:00 pm in St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Hamler with Reverend Tamara Wood officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Holgate with military honors accorded by the Ohio National Guard and Hamler American Legion. Contributions made in Elmer’s memory can be made to American Legion Child Welfare Foundation.
