James A. Baker

James A. Baker age 66, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Mission Pines Care Center, Las Vegas, NV.

Jim was born to Lester and Marilyn Baker on February 7, 1952 in Defiance, OH.  He was a 1970 graduate of Holgate High School and a 1982 graduate of the Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN with a Master of Divinity.   He served faithfully as a Lutheran pastor for churches in Nebraska and Kansas until moving to Las Vegas NV in 1993.  There he continued to minister to the needs of the disabled and elderly as a home health care worker.  He was a member of the First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Las Vegas.

Jim is survived by his three sons: Paul (Jennifer) Baker, Des Moines, Iowa, Jonathan (Rosalie) Baker, Las Vegas, and Aaron (Meranda) Baker, Des Moines, Iowa; a grandson, Jacob, Las Vegas; a companion, Peggy Simms, Las Vegas.  He is also survived by his mother, Marilyn Baker Keeterle, Holgate, and siblings: Linda (Gary) Henschen, Warsaw, IN, Daniel (Barb) Baker, Beavercreek OH, Randall (Carol) Baker, Holgate, and Thomas (Cynthia) Baker, Holgate.  He was preceded in death by his father Lester, a brother Ronald, and a wife Jeanne (Govia) Baker.

A memorial service will be held for immediate family & friends at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Holgate with the Reverend Theodore Rellstab officiating. Contributions may be made in Jim's name to the American Diabetes Association.
