James Daniel Hoffman, Jr.

James Daniel Hoffman, Jr. died Thursday, July 30, 2026 in his Napoleon home surrounded by loved ones. James was born August 8, 1945 to James and Rachael (Snyder) Hoffman in Napoleon. He graduated from Florida High school in 1963. On April 29, 1983, he married Janet Boulis in Liberty Center. Along with own son and daughter, Jim raised Jan's 2 daughters as his own. James was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate, where he enjoyed working at the Shalom church food pantry. He was employed with Campbell's Soup for 25 + years in maintenance and he also enjoyed his time working at Automatic Feed prior to that. He was a gifted mechanic who enjoyed working on cars and tinkering on antique tractors. James was an avid member of the NRA and also loved traveling out west with his wife. He loved music and enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fires in his woods. Above all, he loved his family and friends.

Surviving is his wife, Janet Hoffman; children: Joseph Hoffman, Morenci, MI, Amy (Greg) Franz, Napoleon, Nicole (Jim) Zachrich, Defiance, Tobi (Bret) Ripke, Ridgeville Corners; 8 grandchildren: Tiffany, Caleb, Isaac, Zoey, Jaci, Wyat, Jeremiah, and Lexi: and great grandchildren: Easton and Hollyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 infant sisters.

Friends will be received in St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 9-11:00 am. The celebration of his life will be at 11:00 am with Reverend Jeffrey McCarn officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's UCC or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Zachrich Family Funeral Home of Holgate.
