James "Jim" H. Tobias

September 1, 1942 — March 29, 2024


James H. “Jim” Tobias age 81, was lovingly called to his heavenly reward on Friday, March 29, 2024 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.


His Legacy… Jim was born September 1, 1942 to Everett and Pauline (Conrad) Tobias in Lima.  He graduated from Hamler High School in 1961 and in 1964 joined the US Army National Guard.   He married the love of his life, Dottie Beavers on August 29, 1965 in the McClure United Methodist Church. Once Jim was discharged from the Army in 1972, he began working for General Motors, Defiance. After 43 years as millwright, Jim decided to retire.  He was a faithful member of the Ayersville Community Church and was a United Methodist Lay delegate. Jim was also a member of the UAW local 211.  Jim enjoyed golfing and had a record 5 hole in ones!  He was also an avid bowler and loved spending time with his family.


His Family… Jim is survived by his wife Dottie; children: James (Beth) Tobias, Jr., Holgate, Ron (Karen) Tobias, Defiance and Ellie (David) Adkins, Defiance; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and a brother, John (Shirley) Tobias, Hamler.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Porter and a great grandson Walker.


His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Family Funeral Home of Holgate on Tuesday 2-8 pm and again at the church, 1 hour before the service.  The Celebration of Jim’s Life will be on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Ayersville Community Church with Reverend Jason Vandemark officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ayersville Cemetery with military honors.  Contributions in Jim’s memory can be made to the Ayersville Community Church, Elara Hospice Care or Holgate Lifewise.
