Julia Heitman

March 23, 1917 — July 9, 2013

Julia Emma Heitman age 96 of Delaware, Ohio and formerly of Napoleon passed away peacefully Tuesday night, July 9, 2013 at Sarah Moore Health Care Center of Delaware.

Her Legacy… She was born March 23, 1917 in Freedom Township to Herman J. and Katherine (Haase) Hahn.  Julia was baptized April 15, 1917 and confirmed March 29, 1931 at St. Paul Lutheran, Napoleon Township.  On August 23, 1944 she married William H. Heitman and he died on June 28, 1995.  She attended Davis Business School and was formerly employed with Ohio Statehouse Representative Armbruster, the Wellington Hotel, and Heller Eller Co., and S.M. Heller/Henry County Hospitals.

She took great pleasure in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, music, dancing and was an avid gardener.  Julia had a lifelong love for learning, beginning with a determination to go to high school, even if it required walking there from county road 17.  She had numerous memories to share about Luther League and dancing at Wayne Park!  Julia volunteered her time at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Glenwood, Lutheran Social Services, United Way, Meals on Wheels, SPARK, St. Augustine Catholic School and beginning at the age of 74, she volunteered 14 years with West Elementary School.  To those who knew Julia or came into her life, she was a true friend and a woman full of faith and grace.

Her Family… She is survived by her loving family: children, William J. Heitman, Urbana, OH, Peter Heitman, Northglenn, CO, James Heitman, Malinta, Juli Ann Boehm, Kansas City, MO, Margaret Cramer, Napoleon, Greta Russell, Napoleon, Mary Heitman, Alexandria, VA; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by brother, Otto Hahn and sisters, Margaret Fahy and Hermenia Sherman.

Her Farewell Services… Friends and family will be welcomed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1075 Glenwood Ave., Napoleon on Saturday, July 13, 2013 for Julia’s funeral service at 10:30 am with Reverend Peter Marcis officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Napoleon Township.  In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Julia’s memory should be made to St. Paul Lutheran Music or West School Library young readers.  Following the burial, please join us for a Picnic Celebration of Julia’s Life at Ritter Park on the Maumee River from 12:30 – 5:00 pm.     Arrangements were entrusted to Zachrich Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Holgate.
