Lois B. Young

Lois B. Young age 95, of Holgate, died Sunday evening, March 4, 2012 at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.

Her Legacy… She was born December 15, 1916 to Frank and May (DeVore) Boyee in Holgate. She was a 1934 graduate of Holgate High School and 1941 graduate of Bowling Green State University in Vocational Home Economics. On June 11, 1943 she married Harry M. Young in Norfolk, VA. Mrs. Young was a Home Economics teacher for 6 years at Hamler High School and Holgate High School for 3 years. She was the Henry County Extension Agent in 1947 and 1951 under E.H. Bond. Lois was the oldest living member at the Holgate United Methodist Church where she was a primary Sunday school superintendant, church historian and a coordinator for the World Day of Prayer for many years. She enjoyed gardening. She was a life member of the Ohio Association of Garden Club and was the past regional director from 1970-71 and in 1985 she was the state convention chair in Lima for their Clown Convention. Lois also enjoyed history, as she was a member of the Henry County Historical Society and United Methodist Historical Society of Ohio. She was a 62 year member of the Deshler #68 Eastern Star and a member of the William F. Helmke American Legion Auxiliary Unit 340. Year after year, Lois would make calls for the Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Buckeye State Sheriffs Association, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, American Association of Family and Consumer Science (49 years).

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Young, Holgate. Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband Harry on June 18, 2006.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, Holgate on Thursday from 2-8 pm and one hour before the service at church. Her funeral will be on Friday, March 9, 2012 in the Holgate United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Pastors Susan St. Peter and Tom Ketzler officiating. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Holgate Community Library or to a charity of your choice.
