Marie E. (Harper) Hohenberger

June 22, 1913 — January 29, 2015

Marie Hohenberger age 101, died Thursday morning, January 29, 2015 at Vancrest Healthcare Center of Holgate.  She was born in Defiance County, June 22, 1913.  She was the daughter of Harry and Maude (Weisz) Harper.  In 1931 Marie graduated from Defiance High School.  She married Virgil Hohenberger on July 30, 1932, who died in 1969.  She was a member of Emanuel’s Christian Church, New Bavaria, and the church historian.  She had been a Sunday school teacher for many years.  She served on the Lay Life and work committee of the Northwest Association of the church.  She was a member of Emanuel’s Women’s Guild and served as president, secretary and treasurer at different times.  Marie was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and study group.

Surviving are a son Thomas (Elaine) Hohenberger and daughter Judy (David) Roehrig; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.   Marie was preceded in death by a daughter Donna Marie Theiroff, a grandson and sisters Mabel Barringer and Grace Pfau.

Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Monday from 2-8 pm and again 1 hour before the church service.  The celebration of Marie’s life will be on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Emanuel’s Christian Church, New Bavaria at 10:30 am with Pastor Jason Walls officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Condolences made in Marie’s memory can be made to Emanuel’s Christian Church or a charity of your choice.
