Mary Kathryn (Oedy) Evans

Mary Kathryn Evans age 99, of Holgate, died early Wednesday morning, June 11, 2014 at Vancrest Healthcare Center of Holgate.

Her Legacy… She was born November 14, 1914 to Michael and Lilian (Erford) Oedy in New Bavaria. On May 4, 1938 she married Ronald L. Evans in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria. He died on May 16, 1964. Mary Kathryn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate and the Rosary Alter Society. She worked as a day manager of her brother Clifton’s Holgate Dairy Bar working there over 10 years encouraging and befriending many Holgate youth who continued to keep in touch with her through the years. She also worked at several other local businesses including Cooper’s 5 & 10, Madison’s Variety & Boutique and the local grocery store before retiring. She enjoyed Polka dancing, traveling and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and participate in activities.

Her Family… She is survived by her son, Robert (Mary) Evans, Defiance and her daughter, Therese (Gary) Stantz, Hamilton, IN; 3 grandchildren, Eric Evans, Napoleon, Kim (Alan) VonDeylen, Napoleon, and Gina (Jamey) Wellman, Defiance; 7 great grandchildren, Clay and Kyle Evans, Kelsie and Kayla VonDeylen, Kaylynn, Kasen and Kayden Wellman; sister, Kathleen (Cleo) Schroeder, Leipsic and a sister-in-law, Rita Oedy, Maumee. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Erford and Clifton Oedy and a sister-in-law Salom.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-8 pm in the Zachrich Funeral Home, Holgate.  The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 that evening.    A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 16, 2014 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate at 10:30 am with Father Nick Cunningham and Father Tom Oedy officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Holgate.  Contributions made in Mary Kathryn’s memory can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Holgate United Methodist Church building fund.
