Mary Cathern (Foster) Smith

Mary Cathern Smith age 92 of Holgate, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Vancrest Healthcare Center of Holgate.
Her Legacy… She was born May 11, 1923 to Walter and Clara (Erwin) Foster in Hurricane, WV. She graduated from Hurricane High School in 1941. On February 20, 1943 she married George Donald Smith in Greenup, KY. He died on May 20, 1999. Mary Cathern was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Holgate United Methodist Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Go-Getters Sunday school class.
Her Family… She is survived by granddaughters Donna (Mark) Welz, Holgate and Mary Lou (Rick) Miller, Holgate; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Joshua and Noelle. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Smith Maddock; and siblings, Allen Foster, Edward Foster, Selma Nixon, Ima Lorraine Foster and Ivel Cottrell.
Her Farewell Services… Friends and family will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street , Holgate on Tuesday from 2-5 and 6-8 pm and 1 hour before the service at church. The Celebration of Mary Cathern’s life will be on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in the Holgate United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Reverend Susan St. Peter officiating. Her final resting place will be at Riverview Memory Gardens, rural Defiance. Contributions made in Mary Cathern’s memory can be made to the Holgate United Methodist Church, building fund.
