Nellie L. (Sauer) Retcher

Nellie L. Retcher age 91, died Wednesday evening, June 1, 2022 in her rural Holgate home.

Her Legacy… She was born January 23, 1931 to George and Zelma (Laubenthal) Sauer.  On January 31, 1948, she married Clarence “Joe” Retcher.  She was a homemaker and life member of Emanuel’s Christian Church, New Bavaria where she was a former Sunday school teacher, ladies guild, and helped with many funeral dinners.  She was a member of the Holgate widows group, member of the Red Hat Society and former 4-H advisor.  For many years, she was known as the “hat lady” because of her crocheting hats for elementary aged children.  Nellie was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family.

Her Family… She is survived by her seven children: Jill (Jack) Walters, FL, Jack (Jane) Retcher, Defiance, Christine (Michael) Haines, Clover, SC, Cathy (Dennis) Price, Delaware, OH, Jayne (Len) Kolbe, Napoleon, Barry (Latrisha) Retcher, Liberty Center and Joel (Julie) Retcher, Defiance; 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Clarence on January 6, 2012 and brothers Florian Sauer and Lester Sauer.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received in Emanuel’s Christian Church, New Bavaria on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 from 9:00 am until the celebration of Nellie’s life at 11:00 am with Jeff Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Contributions can be made in Nellie’s memory to Emanuel’s Christian Church or South Richland Fire Departme nt.
