Thelma Agnes (Niese) Westrick

Thelma Agnes Westrick age 101, of Holgate died Sunday afternoon, September 2, 2016 at the Meadows of Ottawa.

Her 101 yearlong legacy… She was born on September 1, 1915 to Louis and Teresa (Schmenk) Niese in Miller City in the time of the horse and buggy.  She married Clarence “Slim” Westrick in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City on September 4,1938.  She was a bookkeeper for the family sheet metal shop, Westrick Sheet Metal where a typewriter was at the height of technology. Thelma was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate and the Rosary Altar Society.  She was a member of the Sunshine Quilting Club.  She lived by herself and drove in Holgate until just before her 100th birthday.

Thelma and Slim never had children but she is survived by many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by Slim on October 24, 1996 and all of her brothers: Melvin, Raymond, Alferd, Elmer, Adolph, Cornelius, and Harold.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Wednesday from 2-8:00 pm with the Rosary that evening at 7:30 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be October 6, 2016 at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Contributions made in Thelma’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Mary’s Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
