William Jay Snyder

William Jay Snyder age 90, of Napoleon, died Thursday, October 29, 2026 at the Defiance In-patient Hospice Center. He was born December 2, 1935 to Clyde and Leona (Rettig) Snyder in New Bavaria. He graduated from Florida High School in 1956. In April of 1957, he began active duty with the United States Marine Corp. In 1960, he married Florence Smith. William worked for General Motors for 36 1/2 years. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate. He was a life member of the AMVETS and Marine Corp League, American Legion, NRA and AFS. He was on the Florida Flatrock Fire Department for 44 years.

William is survived by his wife Florence, of 66 years; sons: Dennis (Peggy) Snyder, Napoleon and Jerry (Sandra) Snyder, Defiance; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Daniel and a great granddaughter Letty Delarber.

Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home of Holgate on Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 10-11:00 am. The service will be at 11:00 am with Reverand Jeff McCarn officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance with military honors. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, American Cancer Society or the Ronald McDonald House.
