Hortencia Espinoza Torres

Hortencia (“Tencha”) Espinoza Torres, 91, of Holland, Ohio, was born November 3, 1930, and passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 peacefully in her sleep at St. Clare Commons in Perrysburg, Ohio.

She was born to Manuel Sr. and Eulalia Espinoza in San Juan, Texas. Married Jose Santos Torres on June 4, 1951 in Holgate, Ohio. Together they raised five children, were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Hortencia always put her family first. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a devout Catholic, proud of her Hispanic heritage and enjoyed sewing, cooking, and traveling. Hortencia was self-less, thoughtful and always made sure to pray for others. She had a special of way of making people feel comfortable and confident, no matter the situation. Her faith and wisdom will never be forgotten.

Hortencia is survived by her loving husband of 70 years Jose Santos Torres; her children: Gilbert (Dee) Torres, Rosalinda (Saul) Castillo, David Torres and Delia (Michael) Mekus; her siblings: Manual Jr.(Ginny), Francisco (Shirley), Horalia (Santiago) Bejarano and Anita Booker; grandchildren: Bernie, Patty, Petee, Brandon, Tyler, Reuben, Sonia, Espie, Jose, Alicia, Joey, Chris, Tim, Kevin, Jessica, Ryan, Brianna; great grandchildren; many God children and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Ignacio, Florencio, Manuel II and Juan; sisters: Manuela, Josephina, Criselda and twins Rosita and Margarita; her son Rogelio and her granddaughter Angelita.

Family and friends may visit Zachrich Family Funeral Home on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 2 pm to 6 pm. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, May 23, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holgate, Ohio with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Memorial contributions are appreciated to Cherry Street Mission Toledo and Toledo Humane Society.
